Erica Umpierrez, MD is a fellowship trained hand and upper extremity surgeon who specializes in all conditions of the arm, including fractures, arthritis, tendon disorders, sports injuries, and nerve compression or damage. She is trained in arthroscopy, minimally invasive surgical approaches, and microvascular surgery. Dr. Umpierrez adopts a personal approach to each patient, taking time to understand them in order to develop a collaborative treatment plan that addresses their individual goals.
Dr. Umpierrez completed her undergraduate education at Emory University in Atlanta, GA graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in German Studies. She stayed at Emory for medical school where she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After completing her orthopaedic residency at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, she pursued subspecialty training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at the prestigious Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center.
Dr. Umpierrez is committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care. She has numerous peer-reviewed publications on various orthopaedic and upper extremity topics. She serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery and has presented her research at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking, tennis, and attempting to learn to golf. Dr. Umpierrez is fluent in Spanish and welcoming patients of all ages.
