Making Waves in Inpatient Wound Care: CMC’s Wound Care Coordinator’s Journey from Case Studies to National Recognition
Mary Wolphagen, BSN, RN, CWCN, has served Conway Medical Center for 10 years and currently leads as the inpatient Wound Care Coordinator. She moved into a Quality Improvement role where she developed the inpatient wound care program at CMC.

In addition, Mary’s role as the wound care coordinator is to provide ongoing education to clinical staff. She leads the Skin Team Committee in the development of pressure injury prevention protocols and rounds to ensure pressure injury prevention strategies are utilized.
Mary conducted several patient case studies to identify the most effective products for the hospital’s needs, particularly focusing on skin tears and pressure injuries. Her research evaluated both treatment efficacy and impact on patient pain levels. By conducting detailed case studies before introducing new products, Mary ensured that all wound care solutions implemented at the hospital are backed by evidence and proven to deliver optimal patient outcomes.
Her work has earned recognition at the upcoming Symposium of Advanced Wound Care in late April, where she will present her findings while representing Conway Medical Center. Additionally, her research will be published in “Wounds” online journal, allowing other wound care practitioners to benefit from our successful approach.
Mary’s dedication, leadership, and evidence-based approach to wound care continue to enhance patient outcomes at Conway Medical Center. The Symposium of Advanced Wound Care is April 30th – May 4th.
