CMC Heart-To-Heart Challenge
The Dangers of Heart Disease
According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both women and men in the United States. It is also one of the most preventable.
Join us this February, American Heart Month, as we highlight healthy heart habits and encourage our community to take the first steps toward better heart health.
Adopt Heart Healthy Habits
Adopting healthy habits can be your best defense against heart disease, heart attack, and stroke.
Exercise, nutrition, and sleep are great places to start! Getting 6-8 hours of sleep is essential for your overall health. Your body, including your heart, reap the benefits of a good night’s sleep. If you suspect you have an issue like sleep apnea or another disorder, talk to your Primary Care Provider to explore diagnoses and treatment options.
Nutrition is another area where our habits can have a big impact on our heart health. CMC Registered Dietitian, Courtney Fuller, recommends you take time to read nutrition labels. She shares “Serving size is always the first place you want to look on your nutrition label.” She also reminds us to limit saturated fat and to avoid trans fat when possible.
Freedom From Smoking
If you smoke or vape, quitting is crucial for a healthier heart. The American College of Cardiography states that vaping still carries an incredibly high risk of coronary disease, heart attacks, and even depressions. If you are ready to quit, talk to your Primary Care Provider about available options and support. CMC is proud to offer an 8 week smoking cessation course, Freedom From Smoking. The course features a step-by-step plan, expert speakers, and tools to gain control back and quit for good.
Outstanding Care in the Heart of Horry County
