CMC Foundation Receives Donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation
Feeding the Hungry grant addresses food insecurity; supports nutrition education
The Conway Medical Center (CMC) Foundation has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Feeding the Hungry grant supports CMC Foundation’s Smart Snacks program, which provides healthy weekend snacks to kindergarten through fifth grade students and their siblings who qualify for free or reduced school lunches. In addition, the grants support community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those experiencing food insecurity.
“The continued support of the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation helps the CMC Foundation ensure each week more than 900 children at four area schools have nutritious snacks outside of school hours. We truly appreciate this gift for our Smart Snacks program,” said Ted Milford, CMC Chief Development Officer and Foundation Vice President.
Each week the children in the Smart Snacks program receive nutritious, nonperishable food items such as fruit cups, pretzels, juice boxes, baked chips and granola bars. Since 2005, Smart Snacks has provided almost $500,000 in provisions for children in Horry County.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $18.1 million in grants.
