CMC Announces Most Popular Baby Names for 2020
A biblical hero tops the list
This year 1,430 babies were welcomed into the world at Conway Medical Center. For years, The BirthPlace at CMC has seen a vast majority of the births in Horry County. There were 727 girls and 703 boys born during the hospital’s fiscal year which runs from September 2019 through October 2020. And while the names that were given to these little bundles of joy varied widely, there was plenty of overlap.
And the most popular name was…
Noah. It was not only the most popular boy name but also given to the most babies in 2020. This trending name is probably most recognizable to those familiar with the great flood story from the Bible and others who are huge fans of the novel/movie The Notebook. Other popular boys’ names were Liam, coming in second, and Daniel, in third. There was a tie for fourth between Dylan and Elijah.
The number one girls’ name for 2020 was Isabella. There was a tie for the second most popular girls’ names between Ava and Harper and also a tie for third between Chloe and Scarlett.
There were many variations to common trendy names. In boys, there were multiple variations of the name Jackson including Jaxon, Jaxson, and Jaxton. The female name with the most variations was Alana with 4 different spellings.
Although there were a lot of names used repeatedly, of the 1,430 babies born at CMC, 757 of them had unique names that were only bestowed upon one newborn. Surprisingly enough, or not, there were no babies named Corona or Rona. We don’t anticipate that becoming a trend anytime soon.
