CMC Announces Most Popular Baby Names for 2023
This year 1,535 babies were welcomed into the world at Conway Medical Center. For years, The BirthPlace at CMC has seen a vast majority of the births in Horry County. There were 729 girls and 806 boys born at the hospital in 2023. And while the names that were given to these little bundles of joy varied widely, there was plenty of overlap.
And the most popular name in 2023 was…
Liam. This Irish nickname was not only the most popular boy name but also given to the most babies born at CMC in 2023. This name has been trending for the last 7 years nationally and it’s possible its popularity with some parents comes from other famous Liams, such as actor Liam Hemsworth or Liam Payne from One Direction.
Other popular boys’ names were Noah, coming in second, and Henry, in third. Elijah was a close fourth and Anthony and Daniel tied for fifth.
The number one girl’s name for 2023 was Charlotte. There was a three-way tie for the second most popular girls’ name between Gianna, Isabella, and Maria. Emma, a consistent favorite through the years, came in third.
Although many names were used repeatedly, of the 1,535 babies born at CMC, 810 had unique names that were only bestowed upon one newborn. Overall, there were 1053 different names used this year. Surprisingly enough (or not) there were no babies named Barbie or Wednesday.
The busiest day at the BirthPlace at CMC was November 18th when 11 babies came into the world at our facility. August was the busiest month with 149 babies being born and over all the Summer was the busiest season of the year with 559 births between June and September.
