Let the Bell Ring
How we celebrate healing in CMC Wound Care
On any given day at Conway Medical Center, you may hear a bell ring out. It’s not an alarm. It’s a celebration that is occurring in the CMC Wound Care Center. It’s a triumphant moment for a patient who has been living with a chronic wound for months and sometimes years. The bell signifies the end of that painful yet courageous journey.
CMC Wound Care has been providing a healing touch to patients suffering from a variety of wounds for over a decade. Since the inception of the program, the Wound Care team has treated over 4,200 patients and healed over 15,000 wounds.
While the team strives to have most wounds healed within 3-4 months, no two wounds are the same and some wounds take longer to heal than others. During that time frame, the Wound Care team, led by Dr. Nicholas Mexas, get to know their patients and become invested in their healing progress. There is no day sweeter for this team than the day they are declared “healed.”
When that day comes, the CMC Wound Care team gathers around to celebrate because healing is cause for celebration. The patient and team rejoice with cheers, hugs, and high-fives. But most exciting is the moment that the patient rings the bell and joyfully declares they are healed. The team is sad to see a friend go but they are delighted to have relieved another person free from pain and provided them renewed peace.
