Dr. Simone Maybin honored as Top 20 under 40
Dr. Simone Maybin, of CMC Orthopaedics, has been named by the North American Spine Society (NASS) as a 2021 “20 Under 40” honoree in its SpineLine publication. SpineLine debuted its 20 Under 40 campaign in 2018 to recognize NASS’ bright, young physicians under the age of 40. The SpineLine Committee selects the most deserving individuals based on accomplishments to date, community service, and philosophy of care.
Dr. Maybin is an interventional pain management specialist. She graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She served in the Air Force in New Jersey and Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter as well as a deployment to Kuwait. After serving five years, she returned to South Carolina for medical school at MUSC. She completed her fellowship training in Interventional Spine and Musculoskeletal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
“I got involved with NASS as a resident when I realized this was a great opportunity to learn from the best spine specialists across the world,” said Dr. Maybin. “There are approximately 9,000 members, 80% are spine surgeons and 20% of us are from other backgrounds like physical medicine and rehabilitation, anesthesiology, chiropractic work, and physical therapy. I have met some fantastic specialists within NASS and to be named one of their best young specialists is a true honor. I’m thankful for the recognition and thankful for my mentors and leaders for helping me hit the ground running my first year out of fellowship.”
Dr. Maybin encourages a healthy and active lifestyle. She’s a professional bodybuilder, taking part in 19 competitions over nine years. She is also a Certified Health Coach.
She will be recognized during the 36th Annual Meeting of the NASS in Boston September 29-October 2, 2021. An article highlighting her achievements was featured in a previous issue of SpineLine. https://www.spine.org/Publications/20-Under-40-2021-Winners
