• Ankle and Foot Sprains

  Ankle and foot sprains occur often during our day to day routines. Simply stepping off a curb wrong can cause damage to the ligaments that help stabilize the bones of your ankle and foot. You can partially or completely tear these ligaments which is referred to as a sprain. Treatment for a sprain is dependent on the severity and can include rest, modifications in activity, or surgery.

• Ankle and Foot Fractures

  Fractures of the ankle or foot can involve one bone or multiple. They may damage ligaments as well. Treatment depends on the location of your breaks, whether you have any displacement, your age, and overall health.

  You may use crutches and a support device, such as a boot, cast, or medical shoe for smaller, non-displaced fractures.  Your physician may recommend surgery if the fracture is displaced, there are signs of instability, or if the fracture is in specific areas of the ankle or foot.

• Achilles Injuries & Inflamations

  The Achilles tendon is located at the back of your foot above the heel. This important tendon controls the movement and flexing of your foot and enables you to walk, run, and jump. If you injure your Achilles, surgical and non-surgical treatments are available based on the extent of the injury and your overall health and activity level.

  Beyond sudden injuries, certain conditions such as Tendonitis, can develop over time.  This inflammation of the Achilles tendon can be treated with stretching, shoe changes, and by modifying your activity.  In more extreme cases, surgery may be needed.

• Bunions

  Bunions occur when the foot bones are out of alignment and the big toe starts to lean toward the other toes.  When this occurs, it looks like there is a large bump on the ball of the foot.

  Bunion pain can often be managed with shoe changes but when that is not enough, surgery may be needed.  There are multiple surgical options for bunions, many of them minimally invasive, resulting in less pain and quicker recovery times.

• Flat Foot

  There are multiple reason that a flat foot deformity can occur.  Arthritis can break down the cartilage and ligaments that support your foot.  Injuries can also cause damage to the tendon that supports the arch of your foot, weakening it and resulting in the flattening of the foot. 

  Depending on the cause of the problem, our orthopaedic experts offer various treatment options to correct the deformity and can perform surgery if necessary. 

• Hammertoe

  Hammertoe is a deformity that effects the bending of the middle joint of your second, third, or fourth toe and makes the toe resemble a hammer.

  When first developing, hammertoes are flexible and easy to treat with non-surgical methods. If left untreated, your toe may become stuck in that position requiring surgery.

  There are other foot deformities similar to hammertoe, including:

  Mallet toe

  Mallet toe, like hammertoe, usually occurs in your second, third, or fourth toes but causes a bend in the joint closest to your toenail instead of the middle joint.

  Claw toe

  Claw toe typically affects the four smaller toes at the same time. They resemble claws because your toes bend up at the joint closest to your foot and down at the middle joints and the joints closest to your toes.

• Plantar Fasciitis

  The band of tissue that connects the heel to the toes and supports the arch of your foot is known as the plantar fascia.  Sometimes pressure from lots of walking, running, or standing can inflame or tear this ligament.  

  Although this condition, known as Plantar Fasciitis, can be incredibly painful, surgical treatments are rarely needed to treat it.  It responds well to non-surgical treatments, such as ice, physical therapy, home exercises, anti-inflammatory medications, injections and special shoe inserts.
