Infusion Center FAQs

Infusion Center FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Ensuring that all your questions are answered before starting infusion treatment is crucial to our team. At CMC Infusion Center, we prioritize clear communication and patient education to foster a sense of trust and comfort. Understanding the procedure, potential side effects, and expected outcomes helps alleviate anxiety and empowers you to actively participate in your care. Moreover, addressing any concerns or misconceptions beforehand can prevent complications and enhance the overall effectiveness of the treatment. Our staff is dedicated to providing a supportive environment where you feel informed and confident about your healthcare journey.

Below are some frequently asked questions to help with this process.  Feel free to compile any others you may have and bring them to your next appointment.

What happens if I arrive late for my appointment?

Please make every effort to arrive at your scheduled treatment time. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, your visit may need to be rescheduled for another time. If you think you will be running late, please call us to determine if the infusion center will be able to accommodate the delay.

May I bring children or a partner to my appointment?

CMC infusion bays are designed for you to bring a partner who may stay with you during your infusion. Children entering the patient care area must be of sufficient age to be self-sufficient in the event of an emergency (Recommended age 16+). Out of respect to other patients, please limit visitors to one per patient. Please contact our nursing staff with additional questions.

Who do I call if I need to change my appointment?

If you just need to change the time of your appointment, please call 843-234-5474 between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you need to change the date of your appointment, please check with your doctor first.

What should I bring with me?

You need to bring a form of identification (driver’s license) and insurance cards for our registration area. Also, please bring a list of the medications you take at home, a copy of your advance directive (if you have one) and any medications that you will need to take during the time you are here. If you have special dietary needs or will be here all day, you are welcome to bring food with you. We do not provide meals during infusion visits but may have small snacks such as chips, crackers, granola bars, etc. available.

Should I eat breakfast?

Yes, eat your regular breakfast before you arrive. There is a cafeteria on the first floor of Conway Medical Center if you are looking for a convenient place to eat before your appointment at the CMC Infusion location on the hospital campus.

Several restaurants are located in the same plaza as the CMC Infusion -University Commons location, however, these locations are not affiliated with CMC and hours may vary.

Do I have a choice between the Infusion Centers at Singleton Ridge or University Commons to receive treatment?

Maybe. This depends on multiple factors, including but not limited to your doctors’ guided recommendation, your personal health status, and insurance coverage. CMC Infusion Services will explore your options if you prefer one location over another.

Does CMC Infusion Services treat pediatric patients?

In general, CMC Infusion Services is designed to treat adult patients age 18+, but patients age 14-17 will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis for treatment.

How long will I be at the Infusion Center?

Treatment times vary according to what medication you will be receiving as ordered by your doctor. Please ask your doctor or our infusion services team how long your treatment will take.

Can I drive myself home after my treatment?

Although most patients will be able to drive themselves home, it is a good idea to have someone bring you on your first visit. Some medications may cause drowsiness.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing with easy access to start your intravenous therapy. Also, it is sometimes cool in the center, so wear clothes that will keep you warm. We also have warm blankets available.

I have a lot of questions. Who will be able to answer my questions?

There is an experienced team of RNs, all of whom are qualified to answer your questions related to you infusion treatment. We will refer you to your physician for advanced questions specific related to your conditions.

I need one-on-one assistance with daily living needs. Will the infusion center provide this?

We are happy to assist with small tasks such as walking or getting out of a chair, but our center is unable to provide one-on-one assistance. If you require a high level of assistance, a family member or health aide will need to accompany you to your appointment.

What should I do if I use home oxygen?

You are able to use your home oxygen during your infusion visit. We recommend that you bring enough home supplies with you for the duration of your infusion plus your travel time. This includes oxygen tanks, a regulator, tubing, and any cart or bag. The infusion center cannot administer oxygen without an order from your provider.

May I bring my laptop?

Yes. Wireless Internet access is available.

What if I need daily treatments?

CMC Infusion- University Commons is open Monday through Friday. CMC Infusion- Singleton Ridge is generally open Monday through Friday but is able to accommodate patients who need daily treatments, such as IV antibiotics, on a limited basis.

Who can I contact to ask a billing question?

Please call 843-347-8072 for any questions regarding your billing for infusion services.
