Dr. Erkan Alci
Dr. Erkan Alci received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida and went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, graduating first in his class. He was also inducted to FSU chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Omega Alpha.
Dr. Alci completed his orthopedic surgical internship and residency training at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. During his training, he served as chief resident from June 2012 to June 2013. He performed research that was presented at multiple national conferences and received Resident Research Competition Top Presenter award at Central Florida Regional Research Symposium.
Dr. Alci completed advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. During his fellowship, he trained in all aspects of spinal surgery including adult and pediatric spinal deformity, trauma, tumor, and degenerative conditions of cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He has particular interest in Minimally Invasive Surgical options to resolve neck and back problems including, but not limited to, kyphoplasty, lumbar laminectomy and fusion, microdiscectomy, and post-cervical laminectomy and fusion. Dr. Alci’s main goal is to deliver individualized, conservative, evidence-based care by educating his patients on their injury or condition and working with them to determine the appropriate treatment method using the least invasive surgical procedure possible to achieve less postoperative pain, a shorter hospital stay and faster recovery. Dr. Alci lives in Myrtle Beach with his family.
Dr. William Mills
Dr. William L. Mills received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and went on to complete his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Mills completed his orthopedic residency at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Charleston. He then completed a spinal surgery fellowship at South Texas Spinal Clinic in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Mills is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has particular interest in vertebroplasty, lumbar decompression, cervical and lumbar fusion and minimally invasive surgery.
Dr. Mills was born in Newberry County and has lived in Horry County for over 25 years. He is actively involved with Canine Angels, a non-profit organization that rescues dogs from shelters and trains them to become service dogs for disabled veterans and first responders.
Shan Fu, PA-C
Certified Physician Assistant
Shan Fu, PA-C received her Undergraduate Degree in Health Science from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She then went on to complete her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at South University in Savannah, Georgia.
As an orthopedic Physician Assistant, Shan works closely with Dr. Alci and Dr. Mills to provide our patients with the highest level of care focused on our patients’ individual needs. Shan’s areas of expertise include assisting with spinal surgeries including lumbar fusions, discectomies, and cervical fusions. Shan performs joint injections and also assists with irrigation and debridement procedures, implantation of spinal cord stimulators, ORIF of fractures, and hip hemiarthroplasty. She has also been trained in the treatment and management of general orthopedics injuries and conditions, utilizing the latest orthopedic techniques and procedures to help patients return to an active lifestyle.
Shan is Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Ann Vennell, PT
Director, Orthopedic Service Line
Ann Vennell completed her undergraduate work at the College of William & Mary and Medical College of Virginia. Prior to joining the Conway Medical Center Spine Center Team, she was the Executive Director of Joint Replacement and Orthopedics for the five hospitals of the Inova Health System located just outside of Washington D.C. While there, she primarily worked with Anderson Orthopedic Institute surgeons – pioneers in joint replacement and leaders in clinical care, research and education.
As the Director of the Orthopedic Service Line, Ann brings her 30 years of experience in health care to Conway Medical Center for the opportunity to establish a regional presence for our surgeons and program. By integrating the talents of our highly skilled and fellowship trained surgeons with the expertise of the dedicated physician assistants, nurses, case managers, physical and occupational therapists, she has formed a cohesive care team that strives for the best possible outcomes. The CMC Spine Care program is a seamless and well coordinated process that starts when patients begin considering surgery and extends to the end of their rehabilitation.
Ann looks forward to meeting each new patient while teaching the pre- operative education class, and then assisting them through the spine surgery process to their new, more active life. During the patient’s hospital stay, Ann will visit to check progress and reinforce individualized treatment plans. Once patients return home, she will follow up to assure patients understand their discharge instructions and are doing well.
