Gastric Bypass Surgery

Provides gastric restriction combined with some malabsorption. The stapling is done vertically, creating a 20cc pouch. A Silastic ring, to promote restriction, encircles the lower portion of the pouch. The stomach, however, is completely stapled shut and the outlet of the pouch opens into the small intestine. Dividing the small bowel just beyond the duodenum and bringing it up the pouch to construct a connection to this. The otehr open end of the bowel is sewn attached to the Roux limb of intestine, completing a "Y" shape.
