LABORATORY AUTHORITY AND LEADERSHIP


All laboratory services are under the authority of the designated Laboratory Director, who is a qualified, Board Certified Pathologist. The authority structure follows the organization design approved by the Medical Staff. Administrator - V.P. of Ancillary Services - Laboratory Director - Laboratory Manager - Asst Lab Manager - Senior Technicians - Technical staff - Phlebotomy Staff

The laboratory has a contractual association with Quest Diagnostics to provide any laboratory testing services that are not provided on site. The hospital has also contracted with area hospitals to perform any STAT lab tests that may be necessary due to on site instrumentation failure, or any other need that impedes test performance at this facility. Other specialty reference labs may also be used when services require expertise in areas that our facility cannot provide. All reference laboratories used by Conway Hospital have been approved by the Laboratory Director, the Medical Staff, and meet all regulatory statutes.

ACCREDITATION
Conway Hospital Laboratory is CAP accredited and adheres to all regulatory compliance associated with performance and resulting of lab tests.

PATIENTS SERVED AND HOURS OF SERVICE
Conway Hospital laboratory services all patient ages and types. All patients served must have a written physician order. The established guidelines for appropriate ordering are discussed in detail in the laboratory's Specimen Collections and Submissions Manual.

A. Inpatients - The laboratory is in operation for inpatients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Full coverage for inpatients is available 24 hours a day. Designated tests are not performed after 3:30 pm, but will be collected as ordered and performed at the time designated. "Pre-op", "New Admissions", as well as timed specimen testing are also available. Laboratory work requested during the evening and night hours (after 3:30pm) should be limited to those that fall into the above stated categories.

B. Outpatients - Outpatient hours are limited to 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The lab outpatient facility is located in the Patient Services Wing. Special arrangements made by the requesting physician are required for testing to be performed outside of these hours. Scheduled appointments are required for Glucose Tolerance Testing and Therapeutic Phlebotomies.

C. Nonpatients - These are specimens that are received from outside sources such as Nursing Homes and Home Health agencies, our Community Services Department or as a product of contractual met to provide the needs of physician office patients. Special registration requirements are necessary for these specimens and are subject to the hours of operation described for outpatients.
