CONWAY, SC – Conway Medical Center’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center has become nationally recognized as an Accredited Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a division of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).

The ACS is a not-for-profit, independent entity that was founded in 1913. It is the largest organization of surgeons in the world. The program accredits facilities in the United States that have undergone an independent, voluntary and rigorous peer evaluation in accordance with nationally recognized bariatric surgical standards. Bariatric surgery accreditation not only promotes uniform standard benchmarks, but also supports continuous quality improvement.

Phil Clayton, President and CEO of Conway Medical Center noted, “We are honored to have received the “Accredited” status from the American College of Surgeons MBSAQIP. Having this accreditation helps us continue to fulfill our mission of improving the overall health of our community by being a leader in health care. Conway Medical Center’s Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Center is one of only seven hospitals in South Carolina who have achieved this accreditation.”

Morris Washington, MD, FACS, Director of the Metabolic & Weight Loss Surgery Center at CMC says, “Our team has performed over 250 weight loss surgeries here at Conway Medical Center and we are proud of the achievements our patients have made. Having performed over 1200 weight loss surgeries in my career, I can truly say that the most rewarding component of this surgical specialty is watching my patient undergo a remarkable weight loss transformation that will allow them to lead healthier lives free from the numerous diseases which result from being overweight".

As an accredited center, Medicare, Medicaid and many insurance companies will cover the cost of weight loss surgery for qualified candidates. For more information call 843-347-8108 or visit the hospital website at   www.conwaymedicalcenter.com
